Calf Pain

The complex of muscles at the rear of the lower leg is known as the triceps surae & consists of three separate muscles - gastrocnemius, soleus & plantaris. All three combine above the heel to form the Achilles tendon. Some activities are well know for placing considerable strain on this part of the leg and injury & inflammation is not uncommon. With a good clinical history & examination a podiatrist can assess which structures may be involved in causing pain and plan treatment accordingly. This may involve an appropriate stretching regime, exercise modification and therapeutic insoles to reduce stress on the affected area, either temporarily or permanently.

A biomechanical assessment is needed to determine whether therapeutic insoles will help you. Please see the the treatments tab to find out what a biomechanical assessment involves.
