Forefoot Pain (Metatarsalgia)

The ball of the foot (forefoot) is arguably the most common area of the foot for problems to develop, probably because it is the area which bears the most force during normal walking. Many people suffer from areas of sometimes extremely hard skin under the foreoot, which are often described as feeling like walking on stones. A podiatrist can easily and quickly remove these areas, although regular foot care appointments are likely to be needed to prevent it from building up again.

There are many other causes of forefoot pain, including arthritis, neuromas, gout and inflammation. Through careful questioning, examination and specialist tests a podiatrist can diagnose the cause of the pain and provide appropriate management of the condition and/or recommend suitable treatment via your G.P.
